“The wonderful Jesus who is enthroned in heaven and crowned with glory and honor is the greatest attraction in the universe. He is like an immense magnet, drawing all His seekers to Him. It is by being attracted by His charming beauty that we look away from all things other than Him. Without such a charming object how could we look away from so many distracting things on this earth?” (Hebrews 12:2, footnote 2, Recovery Version of the Bible)
This footnote from the New Testament Recovery Version describes my case when I began to meet with the church in Corvallis. There I met a group of people who were glowing with love for the Lord. The thing that impressed me the most was how well they knew the Bible -not just the elders, but all the members. I thought, “I want to know the Word of God like that!” Whenever I heard Witness Lee ministering the Word, I was stirred up to love the Lord, to read the Bible, and to pursue God’s interests with all the believers. Christ became so practical and experiential to me. Then I could see that so many things which I had been pursuing were just distracting me from the greatest attraction in the universe.
Today my husband and I feel so blessed to be raising our four sons in such a nourishing and cherishing atmosphere.
